  • Prince-George-Valemount

Lower Mainland canvassers have a bit more time as we will have people bringing sheets over on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Canvassers outside of the Lower Mainland are asked to have their sheets in the mail no later than April 3rd to ensure they get here in plenty of time.

All signed original copies of the petition sheets can be sent to:

Petition Issued

Today Elections BC issued the petition for the Initiative to Amend the Fire and Police Services Collective Bargaining Act to include ambulance service paramedics and dispatchers.

If you are a registered canvasser, blank petition forms and instructions are being sent out electronically through email.

If you did not provide an email address on your registration form, or if you provided a BCEHS email address, you will need to send us a new email address to receive the blank forms. Regional Team Leads will be working the phones this week to get your forms to you.

If you would like to update your email address, please do so by emailing info@yourparamedics.ca with the updated information.

If you would like to receive paper copies of the blank petition forms by mail, you can request them by calling 778-773-1844 and leaving a message.

Canvasser Registration

We are currently receiving many canvasser registration forms daily (don’t slow down, we need more!), and it may take anywhere from 5 to 15 business days before you get your credentials mailed out after we receive your form. We appreciate your patience, but don’t hesitate to contact us at info@yourparamedics.ca if you don’t have your credentials after a couple of weeks.

We have good numbers across the province, but many hands make light work. If you’ve registered to canvass, we ask that you try your hardest to find 1 or 2 friends or family members that may be willing to register to canvass to help us achieve a better ambulance service.

Thank you again for all of the support!

How to register to be a canvasser

It’s this easy to sign up to canvass for a better Ambulance Service in BC! Please share and tag any paramedics, dispatchers, friends and family in the comments below who should sign up to make this initiative act happen!

  1. Download this form
  2. Fill and print out the form – be sure to sign it.
  3. Scan form with a scanner or search your smartphone app store for free apps that can scan the document and make a PDF with the camera image.
  4. Send your scanned form to info@yourparamedics.ca (or snail mail to PO Box 8843 Victoria Main, Victoria BC V8W 3Z1).
  5. Once we receive your form, the Proponent, Josh Henshaw, will sign your form and send it to Elections BC. We will then send you your Elections BC-issued canvasser credentials, as well as all of the information and tools required to canvass successfully.

Public Notice

Initiative Petition Approval in Principle.

This notice is published pursuant to the Recall and Initiative Act.

Approval in principle has been granted on an application for an initiative petition. The petition will be issued on January 9, 2017 and signature sheets must be submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer by April 10, 2017.

The title for the initiative is “An initiative to amend the Fire and Police Services Collective Bargaining Act”. The following is a summary of the initiative:

The draft Bill proposes to amend the Fire and Police Services Collective Bargaining Act (the Act) to give ambulance paramedics the same collective bargaining rights as firefighters and police officers. The draft Bill would retitle the Act to the Ambulance, Fire and Police Services Collective Bargaining Act, change the definition of “employer” under the Act to include the employer of members of a paramedics’ union, and define “paramedics’ union” as a bargaining unit in which the majority of employees are engaged in ambulance paramedic duties. The draft Bill would also remove the right of ambulance paramedics to strike and the right of their employer to lockout during an impasse in collective bargaining, and would require resolution of the impasse through binding arbitration. Consequently, the draft Bill would remove the paramedics’ union as a bargaining unit under the Health Authorities Act.

Individuals and organizations who intend to incur initiative expenses as opponents must apply for registration with the Chief Electoral Officer by December 12, 2016. Individuals or organizations who sponsor initiative advertising, other than the proponent and registered opponents, must register with the Chief Electoral Officer before they conduct or publish initiative advertising.

The initiative application and draft Bill are available for public inspection at the Elections BC office and on the Elections BC website at www.elections.bc.ca.

Further information regarding this notice, or registration as an opponent or advertising sponsor, may be obtained from Elections BC.
